Hi amose,
The feature to build your VI into an executable or DLL is offered by the
Application Builder. The Application Builder is built into the
Professional Development System of LabVIEW, but can be separately purchased to be installed on top of the
Full Development System and the
Base Package of LabVIEW. This has been the case for the current and the many previous versions of LabVIEW, at least back to LabVIEW 6i (6.0). In all versions you can only access the Application Builder by going to the
Tools
menu and click on
Build Application or Shared Library (DLL)...
. Here's a screenshot from the way to launch the Application Builder from LabVIEW 6.1:

If the Application Builder menu item above doesn't show up in your version, then it's because you don't have the Professional Development System and you still haven't installed the Application Builder separately. You will then have to find the Application Builder CD and install it.
Have fun!
