The attachment is a vi file I found somewhere online. Upon the pin 2 and 3 short circuited, I run this vi. It generates no errors for there is no indications in the Error list, but the Block Diagram pops up with VISA configure serial port blinking. Besides, there is no characters showing up in the "read string" field.

greatly appreciate any tips.

Hi,

is there a chance that your VISA configure serial port.vi is surrounded by a red rim? What you describe is the behavior that is caused by a breakpoint. You can remove the breakpoint by clicking on the vi again, using the breakpoint tool.
