I want to study about the pattern matching algorithm. I went through the manual. I want to see a written algorithm for pattern matching as i need it for my final year project. Can you please help me?

They will surely provide you with books on "pattern recognition". Search in the "Computer Sciences" part of the library.

I always thought students should have learned basic "how to"-principles before starting a final year project…
