microsoft surface tablet run time engine problem

I need some help.  I developped a simple executable in LabVIEW 2013 on my Windows 7 laptop and tried to install and run it on a Microsoft Surface Tablet.  This executable runs perfectly find on my Windows 7 laptop, but not on this tablet.  This Surface tablet is running a 64-bit operating system and is Windows 8.1 Pro.  When I go to run my executable program on the Microsoft Surface Tablet, I get an error that states that I don't have the correct Run-Time Engine Installed.  I have the following Run-Time Engine installed:

Is there a different Run-Time Engine that I should be using, or will this executable not run on the Microsoft Surface Tablet?  Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a high priority to get this program running.

Since Windows 8.1 is so new, my bet is that the run-time engine still needs to be updated to handle Windows 8.1.

My guess is that you won't be able to have a compatibile run-time engine until LabVIEW 2013 SP1 comes out in early 2014.

It is not generally a good idea to be on the bleeding edge of upgrading operating systems.  Vendors generally need some time to upgrade drivers.

Here is our compatibility listing for Windows 8: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/14281/en/

Windows 8.1 is essentially a service pack to Windows 8, and everything that works in 8 should pretty much work for 8.1 (it is not officially tested though!). I personally have a laptop on 8.1 and have not had any issues with the LabVIEW dev environment or LabVIEW applications.

What bitness of LabVIEW (32 or 64) did you build the app in? People usually are using the 32 bit version of LabVIEW and need the corresponding 32 bit LabVIEW Run-Time Engine. Your link points to the 64-bit runtime. Try installing this and seeing if it works:

Glad to hear it is working!

To clarify my initial statment I want to note that:

  • As of November 1, 2013 we do not officially list support for Windows 8.1 for our software products (it was recently released, so it has not been tested)
  • Support for Windows 8.1 will be officially added in the future.
  • Support for Windows 8 can be found for each of our products here and these reflect tested configurations: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/14281/en/
