menu question

Hi!

[LV5.01, win98]

I'm using a menu bar in a vi. Calling a menu item that is not
available at the moment will make the menu bar stop working at all
so I have to quit labview and start anew. How can I avoid that?
(one option would of course be to "disable" all items that are not
to be chosen but maybe there's a more clever way ...).
at the moment I stop checking the menu bar results after a menu
item was choosen but I don't stop the execution of the menu reference
itself. Can that be part of my problem? Should I disable menu-
tracking?

b.t.w.: Usually when using the menu bar I have to check the results
of it continuously to react properly. Using an "application item"
there's no need for that. How is that done??

Thanks,
Christoph
