I cannot edit anything inputted from the keyboard. No mathscript nodes, labels, numberical constants nothing.

any solutions or do you just recommend a re-install

If you can't edit with the mouse, as well, maybe the VI is locked: see Vi Properties->Protection.

It's also possible you're in run-mode. Ctrl-M (check the menus) should toggle you between edit mode and run mode.
