install earlier versions of LabVIEW over later versions?

I have LabVIEW 8.5, 2009, and 2010 installed on an Windows XP machine.  I would like to install LabVIEW 7.1 and 8.0 on that same machine.  Is it safe to installed those without first removing the later versions? Or do I have to first uninstall the later versions, and then install everything in order from oldest to most recent?

You are good to go with a few caveats:

  1. most NI drivers (NI-DAQ, NI-488....) only support the last 3 or 4 LabVIEW versions- you WILL loose the DAQmx pallate on 8.0 and 7.1 and other functionallity will be reduced
  2. DO NOT install the application builder if you have one installed. You can do a custom install and de-select it.  There is only 1 app builder on a machine and if you install the 7.1 app builder you'll need to re-install the latest app builder (Found that out the hard way once)

And here I was going to just say there are no problems installing multiple versions. Good to know! Especially the part about application builder.

Not sure about 7.1 but today I built an 8.6 and a 2010 app on the same machine.

ESPECIALLLY the 7.1 installer.  Not all installers check for "latest version" installed and will install OVER a newer app builder (Found that out the hard way once installing 7.1 from media provided by my local NI guy-  took a SSP request and 1/2 day to resolve - just needed to re-install LV 2010 app builder)  but the 2010 app builder will build an app developed in 7.1.

Glad to be of service! my pain- communitiy's gain-  Glad it wasn't "at a customer"
