how to write this program with Labview 7.0

Hi, I am currently in Mechanical Engineering at school and I am new to the programming scene.  Honestly my problem is that our C teacher isnt really teaching us anything.  And now in the last 2 weeks he has switched from C and C++ to labview and has given us this paragraph to make a program with in Labview.  I am lost as to how to begin.  Any and all help would be appriciated.

a bicycle dash-o-meter, which will return us to using LabVIEW to produce a program which will take the rotations of a wheel (27" diameter, with a sensor mounted at 6" from the center), and calculate distance, speed, time, ...).  We'll use a simulated input of course, but we could interface it to a real bicycle wheel or any wheel or shaft for that matter.

I have a feeling that this is very simple all in all, but I am completely and utterly lost.

Mike.

I assume that what you're "measuring" is a boolean pulse where you get a pulse with each spoke on the wheel.

Once you have the number of spokes and the radius, calculating the rest from the times of the pulses is fairly simple, but you have to know how to use LabVIEW, which can be a bit daunting. Here's an example of how to calculate the time between the pulses. After you do the following tutorials, this should be easier for you.

To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here, here, here, here, here and here are a few you can start with and here are some tutorial videos. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

Hi Mike,

In addition to the great links tst provided, you may also want to check out our LabVIEW Fundamentals page. Since you are moving from C to LabVIEW, this page may also be of great assistance in making that transition. I hope this helps!
