What are your desired applications? Vision comes in three varieties: Vision Acquisition Software-VAS (just for image acquisition), Vision Development module (Acquire and process), and Vision Builder for Automated test (for stand alone Vision inspections).
NI-Motion is the motion driver that allows you to do motion control.
All of these pieces of software are separate from LabVIEW. NI-Motion comes with our motion hardware and VAS comes with our frame grabbers. You can download evaluation versions at ni.com to see how each of the programs work.

You can download an evaluation version of Vision Development Module from this page:
http://www.ni.com/vision/software/
But the minimum version of LabVIEW supported by the Vision Development Module installer that you will be able to download from the National Instruments web site is 2011.
Vision Developmnent module contains Vision Acquisition Software (Driver to acquire images from image acquisition cards and standard buses, the Vision image processing library and Vision Assistant image prototyping software).
If you're using a trial version of LabVIEW 8.5, you migh as well update to a trial version of the latest version of LabVIEW.

I am sorry. As I mentioned, the minimum version of LabVIEW supported by the Vision Development Module installer that you can download from the NI web site is 2011. To get access to a older version, that would support this version of LabVIEW, you would need to get in touch with your NI Sales Representative, if upgrading to a newer version of LabVIEW is not possible.

The installer automatically detects the versions of LabVIEW (2011 and higher) installed on your system, and installs the corresponding LabVIEW files. After the installation, the Vision aubmenus and VIs appear in the Vision and Motion palette in LabVIEW.

If you "totally rely" on the Vision Modules for your project, then you "totally" need to purchase this module (unless you can finish your project in 30 days, and are prepared to "totally abandon" it after that.
