getting value from sub vi

Hi,

In your attached vi (try.vi), Use"value'' property while writing to an indicator than  text and as you have a seperate event structure for change in value of "File name" control, you have type the string and then click on any part of the front panel before clicking "save". This will update "FIle name 2" ( value property).

Try and let me know if this works.

In your subVI, right click on "File name" control and select "update value while typing". This will allow "File name : value change" event generation each time you will type a letter in "file name" control (and so, before you click on save button)

Your use of property nodes does not make any sense (nor do some of the answers in this thread). The event structure is not correct either and far too complicated. I don't understand the purpose of the one button dialog function but I left it in the modified VI.
