Does the error occur for every file or just for that one VI??

I've only seen this happen in build applications. A mass compile (of vi.lib) was solving this issue then...

Can you give more details...

Vaj,

This may or may not be related to a known issue.  Here is the article on that issue.  Were you using LV 2009 with the f3 patch at the time or was it an earlier version?

I started getting the 'error code 3' message when updating a 'producer consumer' designed VI from LV_8.6.1 to LV_2009.

I could open the unconverted (top level) VI in LV_2009 and save it but then it was impossible to re-open.

So as directed by the knowledge base article linked above, I applied the '9.0f3 patch' (32-bit XP version) but this didn't solve the problem.

Each time I restarted LabVIEW after an 'error code 3' I'd get an "Investigate Previous Internal Error" message stating that "... an internal error or crash occurred at Scale.cpp, line 2769."

I managed to track the cause to a pair of XY graphs, deleting them and replacing them with fresh ones from the control palette allowed me to complete the conversion to LV_2009 - the VI was broken due to the loss of their related block diagram references, but at least it was in LV_2009

The XY graphs in question were 2 of only 3 controls or indicators that had 'scales' on them - not sure if that is related to the 'Scale.cpp' error message.

Hi Kevin,

I'm happy to hear that you were able to get to the bottom of this.  Do you still have the original VI that was giving you the error 3 message?  If so, could you post it here so that I can test it.  If this is reproducible I would like to put in a bug report and send it on to R&D.  I think that they would find this very helpful.

I installed the f3 patch prior to this happening to me.  The VI was open and working even after I saved it. Only upon reload did it give me this issue.

The point?

This error is still occurring.

How can I upload my VI so you can test it?

Hi Srutan,

Does this happen on only a particular VI or can you not open any VI at this point? Can you open a new blank VI?

Aaron,

Just the one VI.

I'm using LabVIEW on two computers.

One of them for sure has the f3 patch.

I have been able to re-write my VI from an earlier copy, so this is not critical.

Just trying to help. 🙂
