error generating preview - installer

I'm trying to build an installer, but in the Source Files page I can't see any of the files, it only shows <Error generating preview>

Any help?

Hi,

The error message indicates that there is a problem with the executable (VST Executable Builder). First verify that you can generate a preview of the executable files in the executable properties window under the "Preview" category. You can then try to rebuild the executable and verify that all the necessary files are created in the specified destination directory.

Delete or remove that exe file under project and close the project with save. Open the source VI and re-build the exe file of it without any error. Then re-open the project, you should see the new one exe without a preview error.

Thanks for the help, but I found out my problem was with visual source safe.

I loaded the VI's and kept them in the memory and it worked fine.

I am having the same error, but I am not using source safe.  The exe builds and runs perfectly fine, and I can see a preview in teh exe build window.  But when I go to the installer and try to add the source files I get the error "error generating preview"  Anyone know how to fix this? It was working before, and I have no idea why it stopped.

Hi remenakb,

You should check out this discussion forum posting. Do you have any new subvis? Do you have anything named the same? Can you build the installer anyways? What version of LabVIEW are you using?

I havent look extremely closely at all my vis, but I don't think I have any duplicate names, or anything named somethign from vi.lib.  I am using version 8.5.  I can not build the installer anyways. I can't get the preview to show up in the installer so I can't arrow over the exe.

Do your installer and your executable have the same names? What error message do you get when you try to build the installer?

They both have different names.  And I can't build the installer because I can not add my exe to the installer because underneath my exe it shows "Error Generating preview" and there is nothing I can do.

Can you attach a screenshot of your installer where you are having the problem?
