I loaded up labview 8.5 to see if it existed there....it did .....but everything else in the connectivity/database section was gone......should I just try to reinstall the toolkit that it exists on?  This is strange

article listed here (was reffered to it after there was an internal LV error after restarting LV):

this solved all of the problems.

I had the same problem of not being able to drag the database variant to data vi on to the block diagram. I followed the instructions listed and replaced the dir.mnu file. Now all I have is a box with a singel question mark in its place.

I removed the database add on and re-installed it. I am back with the original problem of not being able to drag the database variant to data vi onto the block diagram. When I load my vi, labview is spending a lot of time searching for the database variant to data.xnode but it eventually finds it.

My first attempt at fixing the problem was to re-install the DB addon, and then I saw the question mark icon like you do.  I then stumbled across the article above, and when I replaced that file everything worked fine ,although since I have so many versions of LV installed I could nt figure out why 8.2 would nt work, and then realized I had installed the file only in the 8.0 and 8.5 folders (doh!).

Maybe something similar happened?  I remember that when I pasted the new file in it was around 20kb bigger than the one it was replacing.

its not much but I hope it helps,

I tried to uninstall and then re-install and now get more errors.  Any idea how to reconfigure the XNode. When I install the Data Base add on I never see the database variant to data file that was in the 8.2 directory.

Library that defines the XNode cannot be found

This error occurs when LabVIEW cannot find the library that defines the XNode you used. To correct this error, reconfigure the XNode.

<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> if(typeof(Print_Link)=="function") { Print_Link(); } </SCRIPT>

Hi,

I would recommend repairing your version of LabVIEW and reinstalling the toolkit. Did this not fix the problem? If LabVIEW is unable to locate certain libraries, reinstalling the toolkit and following the KnowledgeBase article mentioned above is the most useful troubleshooting tip.

Hope this helps! Have a great day.

I removed and re-installed Labview 8.5 and the database add-on. I was back to the original problem of not being able to place the database variant to data vi on the block diagram. I followed the information from the knowledge base and replaced the dir.mnu then restarted labview. What a relief it worked. Not sure what I did wrong the first time I tried it. Computers, arrggghh.

Thanks everyone for the help!!
