Hello,
I hope, i am in the right section of forums.
I have basic knowledge of labview, i have created, modified few VIs for hardware equipments like scopes, powersupplies etc , this is when i worked as an intern.
Well now I wish to go for NI certification courses from beginers(certified associate developer) to advanced level (Architect) and want to begin by taking my first step for which i need some advice.
I went through the training information available on homepage and have a few questions,
1) Do these trainings cover any specific application area or it is overall training, so one can get an overview and then apply the knowledge in interested area like (Hardware in loop(HIL), embedded etc) ?
2)Which level of course should I begin with?
3) I wish to make a course , which could be enough to possibly put me on a job in these tough times ? which certification should i go for ,how long does it take, in general to get enough experience and pass the basic certificate examination, Certified Associate Developerand further levels likeCertified Developer and Architect ?
4) I thought of getting strong foundation by taking basic courses via NI training, getting onto a project(if i find one) and developing skills parallely while working and preparing for certificate exams.
5) Is there a test by which i could determine, which level i need to start with ?
i am looking forward to hear from you people on board, please guide me.
No's and truths dont discourge me 🙂
This could be a immature post, because i am confused where to start with, please bear with me and reply me
Regards,
leo

Hey,
to your questions:
1) Do these trainings cover any specific application area or it is overall training, so one can get an overview and then apply the knowledge in interested area like (Hardware in loop(HIL), embedded etc) ?
LVB1+B2 cover basic programming knowlege.
I1 covers project design and application design.
I2 covers connectivity topics (TCP, UDP, DLL, ....)
There are just fucused trainings on NI Hardware like LV DAQ, FPGA, RT, Vision, ....
2)Which level of course should I begin with?
If you allready worked with LV you can skip LV B1.
3) I wish to make a course , which could be enough to possibly put me on a job in these tough times ? which certification should i go for ,how long does it take, in general to get enough experience and pass the basic certificate examination, Certified Associate Developerand further levels likeCertified Developer and Architect ?
You can test your knowledge in doing the CLAD online. Just search for CLAD under ni.com
For CLD and CLA I suggest as much programming routine as possible.
4) I thought of getting strong foundation by taking basic courses via NI training, getting onto a project(if i find one) and developing skills parallely while working and preparing for certificate exams.
This would be excellent.
5) Is there a test by which i could determine, which level i need to start with ?
No, but you can see if you would pass this online CLAD
Hope this helps,
Christian

Hi Christian n all,
A small question,
Does labview training, CBT or some other material, include enough homeworks or some Tutorials, which on self practice would help someone sitting home to get enough experience and skills needed to pass the CLAD exam ?
Thanks a lot again, your previous replies as always have helpmed me excel.

Leo,
I just took the CLAD a few weeks ago - don't know if I passed yet, but I felt good at the time. I've been working in labview a few years now, but only significantly this past year. One really good resource is the Labview Style Guide by Blume. It isn't so much about programming techniques as developing good habits. There are many ways to do things in Labview, but some are much better than others. The Style Guide does a really good job of laying it out. I REALLY recommend picking it up and reading through it.

Hi leo,
there are also some webcasts. See also this link, there you'll find some information about CLD certification.

Hi every1,
M working on Lab view from past 1 year. Have not given CLAD test. Is it necessary to get a job? I have a question for NI ,Why this certificate is valid for only 2 years? This is why m not giving this test. Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Hi gak,
no it's not necessary to have a certification, but some companys like to see it.
It's only two years valid, because this guarantees that you are fit with the latest version. If you have a certifaication from 5-6 years ago, the time from LabVIEW 7.x, then it says you can work with LabVEW 7, but it could be that you are not familiar with a project file which was first introduced with LabVIEW 8.0.

Hi Mike n all,
thank all, but my doubt is not yet clear.
" no it's not necessary to have a certification, but some companys like to see it."
I am out of job and to get a job, i wish to go for CLAD certification, dont have much experience working practically with labview,
so, the question still remains,
Does labview training, CBT or some other material, include enough homeworks or some Tutorials, which on self practice would help someone preparing at home to get enough experience and skills needed to pass the CLAD exam ?
Thanks a lot !

Hi leo,
yes it's possible. If you spent enough time, then you can definitively get the knowledge to pass the certification. You can make the online test and you can print some examples. You'll also find a lot of threads in the forum about the questions and the answers.
What do you mean with LabVIEW training? If you make a course, then the course manual contains the stuff you need for the certification.
Hope it helps.

Hi Mike,
Yes, this reply helps.
What do you mean with LabVIEW training? If you make a course, then the course manual contains the stuff you need for the certification.
Actually i meant Self paced training (Labview CD based training), I am sorry, if that might have confused you..
I read that the instructor led training course and self paced training have the same course content, so the manuals and examples you tlked about must be also included in CD based training,Right ?
