can labview access data from spreadsheet?

I have a list of data stored in excel. e.g. containing 10 rows and 6 columns. can I use labview to open the file and extract one of the rows selected by the user for further manipulation? If labview can do that, what approach should I take?

Yes it can.

There's an example that ships with LV (look under the section on ActiveX) that gives a good example of how to interact with Excel.

Under v6.1, in the examples search window, do a search for "ActiveX" and you should find it. With v6.0, open the examples window and select "Communication" and then "ActiveX Examples".

There are other ways to do this other than ActiveX. It all depends on what you want. Although you cannot read and interpret excel files directly without ActiveX, you can save your excel worksheet as a tab delimited text file you can use the "Read From Spreadsheet File VI" to read this type of file. The output of this VI will be a 2-D array of your spreadsheet data. You can then index a row from this array and do your manipulation.
