assign keybind

Is there anyway to assign key bind various labview features such as when I click on an object in the block diagram, I can create a local variable, control, indicators, etc...?  This will help me get thing done quicker.

All available keyboard shortcuts can be found in the LabVIEW Options. Tools->Options, and then change to the Menu Shortcuts page. If a shortcut does not exist then you can try to use a programmable mouse or keyboard that allows you to create macros.

In 8.6 there is a feature where you can open a key binding dialog. I don't
recall the exact name, but here is how it works. Press a short cut key
(CTRL-?, don't know which key it is). Then you get a dialog that looks like
the search dialog from the function palette. Press a letter there and the
object that is bound to this letter can be dropped on the diagram. You can
also bind letters to your own VI's, but I think they have to be in your user
lib.

The feature you're talking about in LabVIEW 8.6 is called Quick Drop and is activated by <Ctrl + Space>.  It works much the same as the search function but loads instantly after the first time and allows you to create user short cuts.  Check out this link to the LabVIEW help detailing more features of Quick Drop and how to customize it to fit your needs.  Have a great day!
