append report text (str).vi

Hi,

I am using LabView 6.1.  I am attempting to open a VI but LabView is unable to find a sub VI called "Append Report Text (str).vi".  I looked under the report generation section, and I have "Append Report Text.vi", among several others.  Is "Append Report Text (str).vi" part of an extra toolkit?  Where would I be able to obtain this toolkit?

Thanks,
Ian

Hi Ian,

could it be that it is a custamized vi. I have only the "Append Report Text.vi" in my library. Which type of connector pane has the you are searching for. Do you try to change it wiht "Append Report Text.vi"?

Can you attach your vi which search the "Append Report Text (str).vi", so i can try to open it?

Hi Mike,

That was my initial thought as well.  I asked the person who gave me the main VI to search his machine for Append Text Report (str).vi, and he couldn't find it.  Later, he managed to find it in NIReport.llb.  I looked in the NIReport.llb I have on my machine, and I was unable to find it.  I asked him to look for any indication that an additional toolkit is installed, and he couldn't find any, but I wouldn't rule it out.

I was able to get "Append Report Text (str).vi" from his llb, but I can't run it.  I've attached a screenshot of it to this post.  The unbundle by name that's connected to the selector of the case structure causes a problem (the only valid options for report type are Standard and HTML), as does the unbundle by name that's in the case structure.

The VIs that call "Append Report Text (str).vi" contain some proprietary information, so I'd like to refrain from uploading them for the time being.

Thanks,
Ian

Hi ifitzgera,
As far as i know there are two types of Report Generation. One with normal Labview installation and an advanced one. Could that be the problem? One of you has one version and the other one the other version?

i had the same problem in the past and could only solve it with deinstalling the advanced report generation toolkit.

Hi Ian,

I have been reading your posts and I think I can help a bit. The Append Report Text.vi is a polymorphic VI. Polymorphic VIs are VIs that accept different data types for a given input or output terminal. Different data types can mean different representations or dimensions. A polymorphic VI is a collection of subVIs with the same connector pane patterns. Each subVI is called an instance of the polymorphic VI.

If you place the Append Report Text.vi on the block diagram and right click, you can select type. This is usally set to Automatic but you can change it to be either Append Report Text (str).vi or Apend Report Text (num).vi. I hope this clears up where you can get the Append Report Text VI.

If this subVI is missing, you might want to try to reinstall the report generation toolkit as well.

Hi,

I am unable to find where to select the type for the Append Report Text.vi, so I can only assume that the report generation toolkit is not installed, and I cannot find any installation media for it.  Where might I acquire the report generation toolkit for LabView 6.1?

Thanks

Hi ifitzgerald,

I did a bit more research and the Report Generation Toolkit is only available for LabVIEW 7.0 and above. You can take a look at the system requirements here and it lists which operating systems and which versions of LabVIEW it works with. The reason that the VI does not work is because LabVIEW 6.1 is not capable of running any of the VIs that come with this toolkit. I hope that helps clear up your question. Have a great day!

Hi Carla,

Thanks for your responses so far.  The fact that the report generation toolkit is only available for LabView 7.0 and later is a bit perplexing.  As I mentioned above, the person that gave me the main VI that I'm trying to use found the Append Report Text (str).vi in NiReport.llb, but I didn't mention that he was able to open that VI in LabView 6.1.  Was there a product besides the Report Generation Toolkit that would have installed Append Report Text (str).vi?

Thanks,
Ian

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the response. So I have found out that there is an older version of the Report Generation Toolkit that will work for LabVIEW 6.1. It is Report Generation Toolkit 1.0.1. You can look at this table to see which versions of the toolkit are compatible with which versions of Microsoft office and LabVIEW. You can also find the Report Generation Toolkit by following this link. Make sure that it is compatible with your operating system as well. I hope this helps!
