I am trying to import settings for NI-MAX to my laptop from a desktop PC. In the past I have been able to sucessfully do this but I am getting an error now since I have upgraded LabVIEW to 8.6.1 and NI-MAX to 4.5.0f0 (whatever that is).
Here is a posting of the specific error I am encountering

Hi spsuamin,
Try deleting the simulated PXI devices from MAX and try importing the .nce file again. You should then be given the option to create a simulated device for the PXI chassis and modules.

Sweeet! The .ini format worked.
I don't use MAX to define scales or virtual channels (I keep everything in the LabVIEW source code ) so I assumed there were no formats other than .nce.
Thanks!

David,
Thanks for this suggestion. It's now two years after the previous post, I'm using LabVIEW 2011 with MAX 5.0, and am developing LabVIEW-RT code with the RT part eventually running on a PXI chassis. To continue development "outside the lab", I need to be able to simulate the PXI and its hardware. MAX told me how to do the Export/Import part, but didn't inform me about choosing the .ini format instead of the default .nce!
Question -- if .ini "works" and .nce doesn't, why is .nce the default? If there are times and circumstances where one or the other would be preferred, wouldn't a "radio-button" display, listing when one should use which version, be preferred? Instead, we read the MAX Help, "follow the directions" (taking defaults, of course) and get errors! Fortunately, the Web and NI Support have the answers, but why not fix this?

OK, so I can't do arithmetic -- it's been three years since the original post ...

Hello Bob,
Thanx for the feedback! Why don't you post it in the NI Idea Exchange forum? Maybe it will get included in the future releases.
Have a good day!
