Just have a look at the attachment of my first reply. This vi searches for the first free file in a directory and returns its path. Even if the app was restarted, the files remain in their directory. So you can go through them and search for the next possible file.
You can modify it to meet your requirements.
If you store the files in the same directory, depending on how many files you write, the method takes more or less time. To weaken this problem, you could create different directories (e.g. per month, per week, per day...).
