XT Power Supply control via RS232 Errors

I've downloaded and installed the XanM9B drivers from the NI website on two different PC's.  Configured the Com Port in MAX.  XT 30-2  power supply is set up for remote control(RS232).  All settings appear to be correct   However, any VI I run returns a Timeout error.   I've come across other errors as well that indicate the instrument handle is incorrect.  I've tried entering/selecting the Com Port, and I've also tried entering ASRL4::INSTR.  Regardless, each results in a timeout or handle error.   After two days of troubleshooting, I could really use some guidance as I'm quite the novice with LabView.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried just using a program like Hyperterminal first?

Very useful for debug purposes.

And did you try a different cable type? If you are using a null modem cable, try a straight through. And vice versa. If you don't know the type you have or what you need, that should one of the first things you need to do.
