XControl Properties and Perforce

I seem to repeatedly have problems checking in XControl read and write properties to my Perforce repositary.

The Property folder tells me it can't be added because it hasn't been saved and the Read and Write VIs don't give me the opition to add to source control on the right-click menu.....

Perforce error.PNG  Can't add the Property folder

No SCC add.PNG  Can't add the individual files..

Is this a bug or am I doing things wrong?

This is making working at home andin the office a real pain as VIs are getting "lost"

.

Hello Shane,

from my point of view the message is quite clear, you will find some informations about your next steps in the dialogbox. You have to save the file you want to add to Perforce. But am I right, that this is one of the first things you have done?

I found some other informations which could help you out with this. First of all, only for assurence the general "How to do":

Using Source Code Control with LabVIEW and Perforce

http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4631

Another very interesting thing it is discussed in a Perforce Bug Release Document (see link below).

From the Perforce Release Notes:

Issue Number: 103269
Clients with upper case letters drive letters in the root no longer fail to connect to the server. (Bug #21582)

Resolution:

  1. In the Client Specifications Root Path setting in Perforce, change the drive letter from a capital case to a lower case (Example: change "C:\" to "c:\").
  2. Restart LabVIEW and reopen the project.
  3. The "Check In" and "Check Out" items will no longer be grayed out and you should no longer receive the error messages.

Hope that helps. Regards,

I have not run into this exact problem but have a few questions so we can debug it better:

  1. What version of LabVIEW are you using?  XControls have been continually improved since introduction.
  2. Are the VIs actually saved (can you see them in your file browser)?
  3. If the VIs are saved, can you manually add them to Perforce using the usual Perforce methods (e.g. P4Win, P4V, or the command line)?
  4. If you can manually add them, do the show up correctly in the project if you close and reopen the project?

The problem with being tol to save is following: I can't save the folder because it's a virtual folder (The folder containing the XControl properties) and doesn't exist in the OS file system.

I would like to be able to click on the folder and add the CONTENTS of the folder but this doesn't work exactly because the folder is a virtual one (apparently).

1: I am using 8.6.1 (Sorry for leaving this out).

2: Yes the files exist and are saved.

3: Yes I managed to add them manually.

Perforce has the files.PNGFiles in Perforce (And up to date 😉 )

4: No the containing folder seems tohave a SCC checkbox but the files don't.

Perforce XControl Property.PNG  The virtual folder (Which doesn't exist on disk) seems to have a SCC checkboy but the files (which DO exist and ARE in the SCC) do not.
