Wrong LV Runtime running

I have version 6.1 and 7.1 installed on the same computer. On other computers with this setup everything has run fine more or less. On the current computer I'm working on, I've built some of my applications from LV7.1 but when I try to run them, the 6.1 RT takes over and asks me for a vi to open because it can't handle the 7.1 program. Any suggestions as to a fix? Thanks.

Are you sure that it's the 6.1 run-time "taking over"? The normal error message when you don't have the correct run-time on that pc is different. I don't remember the exact wording but it comes up and says wrong run-time and stops. It does not prompt for VIs. It sounds like the correct run-time is loading but certain VIs are missing in your build. What are the names of the VIs it is loooking for? You can try uninstalling the 6.1 run-time to see if that fixes your problem but I suspect it won't.

It's definitely the 6.1 RT that starts. I can see the maroon and white title box and then it dumps me to the open vi dialog box. If I try to open a VI that was built in 7.1 I get the message that says something about "this vi was built with a newer LV (version 7.1) than this cureent version (6.1)." Uninstalling the 6.1 RT isn't really an option because all of our working software is in LV6.1 and the 7.1 stuff is still kinda in testing.

Also, is there a (simple) way to convert a VI from 7.1 back to 6.1? I'm sure we have 7.0 somewhere but I don't know where. And some of the software I've written in 7.1 would be quite useful on our 6.1 systems.

Thanks again,
Gary

Okay, that's the error message I was trying to remember. I can't say I've ever seen this problem. I have one system where I have 4 versions of the run-time installed starting with 6.1 and all of the exe's and DLL's run okay. You could try uninstalling the 7.1 run-time and re-installing it. Do an install and not just a copy. Also, make sure that the build and the run-time match (i.e. development environment is not 7.1.1 and the run-time engine is 7.1 or vice versa).

I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling both versions of LV and now it works. Go figure. Thanks for the help.

As a response to your other question, although at this point it may be moot, you will have to dig out your 7.0 version to convert from 7.1 back to 6.1. Remember, if there are any 7.1 specific things, they won't convert.

Good Luck
