Why is my desktop ETS target booted using safe mode program after a format disk?

Following the web page, http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4480#toc8, I got some progress in developing a desktop PC as a LabVIEW real-time ETS Target.

When I evaluate my PC on a floppy drive with the Desktop PC utility obtained from the pceval.zip attached to the following web document, http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/62538D52E61FC167862571C7006EDAC0?OpenDocument, I see a message on a monitor screen, which is seen in figure 1 attached to this e-mail. At this stage, I would like to ask whether the message is normal or not.

With this message, I continue to the steps configuring my desktop PC using a boot disk on a floppy drive. Following all the recommended steps, I see a message on the screen, which is seen in figure 2 attached to this e-mail. According to the message, the PC is booted using safe mode program. Is this process right?

Configuring the PC using a format disk, I got the same message meaning the PC is booted using safe mode program.

Eventually, expanding the Remote Systems category on MAX of the host computer, I couldn't find out any remote system in the remote systems list.

I think something is wrong with my target. I wish you can catch it from two of the attached messages. My LabVIEW Real-Time version is 8.2 and MAX version 4.1.0 3001.

Did you connect the desktop to your network? If so, you should be able to see it from MAX if both your PC and the RT target are in the same subnet. If that doesn't work you could still use a crossover ethernet cable between the two systems (remember to assign your PC a fixed IP in this case).

By the way, the unconfigured message is OK, this is what's expected after using the format disk. Once you see it in MAX, you'll first have to name your target and to set up the TCP/IP settings (fixed IP/DHCP). After a reboot you can install software (LabVIEW RT and drivers) from MAX.

Hope this helps
Daniel

Hi, Daniel,

Thank you for the advice!
It's a nice thing to know the messages are OK.

I also solved the trouble that my target is not listed on MAX by applying MAX update patch available on the web page, http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/D3076C71B32910D9862572A30064528A.

Thanks again.
