View As Icon setting doesn't persist in Windows 8.1 VM

Solved!
Go to solution

Running VirtualBox 4.3.30, guest additions installed. The VHD is on a removable HDD for portability between workstations. I get a pretty seamless usage from it, except for the fact that every single time I start it up, I have to go into the block diagram settings and disable "view as icon" for new terminals. Is this a documented error? Is there something I'm missing? Some registry setting I can use?

Are there any other settings in LabVIEW that you change that also don't seem to stick?

It seems to me that LabVIEW is either not updating the LabVIEW.ini file with that setting (write errors?), or the VM is restoring the LabVIEW.ini to some earlier version.

It's not a registery setting.  It is a setting in LabVIEW.ini called FancyFPTerms=False if LabVIEW places the controls as regular terminals.  If that line is missing, then LabVIEW places the terminals as "Fancy" icons.

I'm not well versed enough to use any other settings, any suggestion on which would be most noticeable for not sticking? Also, where is LabVIEW.ini? In program Files?

Just pick a different setting, any setting, change it.  See if it sticks.  When you come back into LabVIEW and the Options dialog, see if it stayed the way you left it.

Another clue may be whether your recente files and projects in the Getting Started Window change as you work on LabVIEW, or revert back to an old list files.  The recent files are also saved in LabVIEW.ini

Yes.  LabVIEW.ini is under the LabVIEW directory under Program files or (x86) depending on your bitness of LabVIEW and Windows.
