Version 8.5 switches to front panel unexpectedly

Using the trackpad is not a very productive way to work with Labview, especially when you need to precisely position objects, but I'll try it if I have time. However, it seems if this problem is related to the "user input devices" then I would see this problem with the many other applications I have, not solely Labview.

I have tried some of the actions you mentioned and have not managed to reproduce the issue. I will keep testing it out to see what I can get.

Have you had any issues without the external keyboard and mouse?

I have not attempted to use Labview without the external keyboard and mouse, but as I said earlier in this post, another Labview user here has seen the same problem in LV8.5 as I did, and he has a desktop computer, not a laptop. He hasn't used LV2009 yet but will be starting today, and I asked him to let me know as soon as he sees this problem happening again. Do you think the problem could be related to the user input devices and NOT affect other applications? Here are a couple more instances:

Click to terminate new wire

Press Delete key after highlighting object on block diagram

I am not absolutely sure if user external input devices are causing the issue at all. At the moment I am just following a process of elimination, to narrow down the possible causes. The easiest first step is to eliminate the external mouse and keyboard. I will keep trying the keystrokes you mentioned in order to reproduce the issue.

Please provide some further feedback once you have given it a go without a keyboard and mouse.
