VISA serial

I have LabVIEW6.1 with Win2K OS. Somehow, VISA doesn't recognize serial ports. Not all but some. Then I installed VISA RT-engine and it fixes most of unknown port issues (still remain some unknown ports). Then I reboot my pc, it all messes up again. First it doesn't recognize 5 ports, then 7, all different ports. How do I fix this problem? This is really driving me crazy as I thought it is fixed, then the same problem comes back again. Thanks for your help!

Hi Danny,

Are you able to "see" the serial ports within MAX (Measurement & Automation EXplorer)?

I also use multiple COM & LPT ports.

I don't think the problem is related to LV6.1 and VISA not recognizing the serial ports.

Do you see the serial ports in the Device Manager (Control Panel > System)?

It is strange that they appear to disconnect after rebooting the PC.

They should all appear in the Hardware Device Manager, if not, re-install the drivers, some of the driver installation require to be installed in multiple instances (ie: two steps per port!). Although it seems like the installation takes forever, you have to go to the end of the driver installation (even if it seems "stuck" in a loop).

If all the ports appear in the Device M
anager, verify that they all appear in MAX. If they don't, scan for them.

Open MAX, expand "Devices & Interfaces", expand "Ports", and look at what is listed. Since my ports always showed up, I have never tried right clicking "Ports" and selecting "crease new statuic serial port".

Hope this helps,

JLV
