Upgraded to labView 8.2 and now I can't get DaqMX to show up in LabView

I decided to upgrade to LabView 8.2, but now I can't get DaqMX vi's to show up in LabView. I've reinstalled everything twice and it still does not work. Any thoughts?

Nevermind. I fix the problem. I'm uninstalling Labview 8.2 and reinstalling Labview 8.0. I'm not sure why National Instruments has to make upgrading a total pain. I have wasted a the whole day screwing around trying to get Daqmx to work in Labview 8.2. This is not the first time I have had this issue. Every upgrade is the same nothing is loaded into the newer version. I'm glad upgrading to other software isn't this messed up or know one would ever get Windows upgraded.

You say you reinstalled everything twice but did you reinstall DAQmx after you installed 8.2? The installation of just the development system does not reinstall hardware drivers/toolkits/etc. Some of these require new versions and some don't so a simple copy of files from a previous installation is generally not a good thing. The best thing to do is to run the installation program from the device drivers CD. Also, there was no reason to uninstall the older LabVIEW version before installing 8.2. They will coexist perfectly fine.

I installed it the first time with 8.0. Then I removed bother programs and reinstalled just 8.2. I installed Daqmx about ten times from the CD. No good. I also installed two different add-on toolkits which installed fine. It is just Daqmx will not show up in LabView. All of the folders seems to be installed in 8.2, but it will not show up in the functions pallete. Reinstalled 8.0 and everything is good again. I'm using Daqmx 8.0.

The latest version of DAQmx is 8.3 and that is what should have come on your LabVIEW 8.2 distribution. You could also have gotten it from here. I know that shows up in LabVIEW 8.20 as I only have the evaluation version and I installed DAQmx 8.3 after downloading it. It sounds like you may have installed 8.20 before getting the CD's. While this is a nice feature that NI has made available, the downside is that you might miss one of the other required updates.

Hi

I've had a similar problem. Updated to 8.2 from 8.01, installed DAQmx8.3 (from the link given) but I just get a host of broken wires in the standard DAQmx VIs, such C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\DAQmx\create\channels.llb\DAQmx Create Channel (AO-Voltage-Basic).vi - See attached pic (hopefully).

Looks like the attach didn't work...pic would have shown many broken wires around property nodes...

Uninstalled DAQmx - Reinstalled DAQmx, Installed DAQ and went through all the nodes to select the right signal to the changed names.

My express VIs that talk to PCI-6254 and PCI-6703 all seem to have changed when moving to 8.2 and now each and every instance of the VIs has to be opened up and rewired... Perhaps I should have not bothered with the upgrade .....

Not sure why you uninstalled DAQmx but that was a mistake if you didn't first export your existing tasks and save them. The DAQ Assistant creates tasks. When you did the uninstall, I'm pretty sure that will also remove any existing tasks. When you did the re-install, the DAQ Assistant had no reference to the old tasks you created and you had to re-do them.

Thanks for the advice Dennis. I uninstalled and reinstalled as I didn't know what else to try. This upgrade has caused me far more problems then the upgrade 8.0 to 8.01. I think that the numbering is misleading and the upgrade has been more like a major one rather then a minor one. If it had been called 9.0 I would have chosen a more convenient time to do the upgrade. As I said 8.0 to 9.01 was fine... and I was hoping that 8.2 would be much the same...
