Trouble Connecting Personal Laptop to myRIO Wireless Network

Solved!
Go to solution

So I've been trying to set up the wireless network on the myRIO that I purchased in August 2015 and I've been unable to connect to that network with my laptop. I asked other students to connect to the network outputted by the myRIO and they've been successful. Some solutions that I've tried already are:

1. Updating the firmware of the myRIO and updating LabVIEW.

2. Disabling the firewall and security scans on my computer's antivirus software (McAfee).

If anyone has an idea of what could be causing the issue, I'd really appreciate it. My laptop is an Acer Aspire R14.

Are you running Windows 10?  It appears that there is a serious bug in the myRIO hardware/software platform that doesn't "play well" with Windows 10.  However, it works really well with Windows 7 ...

A month or so ago, someone wrote to the Forum trying to connect his myRIO to Windows 10.  I have a myRIO, had no difficulty connecting it (two years ago), so said "Oh, this will be a piece of cake, and I can be helpful, too" ...  Nope, there are serious bugs/flaws.  I immediately brought this to the attention of the NI Support Team and worked with them for about a week on this issue.  Among other things, MAX can "see" the myRIO, but cannot open it at all!

We did get partial resolution, as follows:

  • They provided me with code that reformatted my myRIO's hard drive and reinstalled the Firmware.
  • I was able to set up a second PC with Windows 7, and installed the latest myRIO toolkit, along with the latest version of MAX (16.0.1).
  • I was able to run the myRIO setup from the Windows 7 machine, and MAX was able to "see" the myRIO and its components.
  • I was able to configure WiFi for the myRIO.
  • Trying to connect with the Windows 10 machine, MAX had the same issues as before (even with the "new" myRIO) -- MAX could "see" it and knew its name and serial number, but could not enumerate any of its ports, basically couldn't "do" anything.
  • On the Windows 7 machine, when I first was setting up the myRIO, it had a little demo that it ran which included showing the 3D accelerometer.  It ran fine on the Windows 7 PC.
  • The demos did not appear on the Windows 10 machine.  Nevertheless, I was able to open a myRIO sample Project and run the 3D Accelerometer demo from the code, demonstrating that Windows 10 and LabVIEW 2016 (specifically 16.0f2) can work with the myRIO, even if MAX cannot.

Okay, I do have Windows 10, but I actually found a different solution to my problem. My network driver was not up to date, so I went to Acer's website and installed the newest version. Once I did that, I was able to connect just fine. I've talked to other people with Windows 10 that had the same issue with connecting to the myRIO, but I'm unsure if their network drivers were up to date, so that may be the solution.
