Sending a Keep-Alive message over TCP/IP, LabVIEW7.1

Hello!

I´ve a problem, our cunstomer need a "Keep-alive" message for reliability of connection. (in format "KEEP ALIVE DDMMYYYY HHMMSS")

Our PC acts as server, the customer is client. The two PCs are connected over Ethernet.

At the momment the server send every second a new datapackage.

My question, what generally is a "Keep-alive" message? And how do I realize it with LabVIEW???

Thank you for your help in advance!!!!!!

Hi

Generally a keep-alive message is a message to keep a connection alive. If this message is not recieved, the connection is closed.

You can use it in custom software but it is also used in the osi layer-model (just google for osi and keep-alive and you may find lots of information).

About how you can do it - I would say you just can send a normal data package that meets the format you described.

Hope this helps.

Hi!

OK, I´ll send our normal data and then every minute a keepalive message is send.

I send a normal string like 'KEEP ALIVE 090605 084632'. Hope that this works.....

Thank you!
