Rolling back 8.6 to 8.5.1

Hi Folks,

I'd like to roll back my 8.6 installation to 8.5.1. 8.6 no longer supports my Fieldpoint hardware. I wanted to upgrade mainly for some of the added usability features, such as multi-item properties, etc. Yes I could keep 8.6 but I like to keep installations and dependancies tidy and untangled.

So what is the cleanest way of uninstalling 8.6? I uninstalled *just* LabVIEW 8.6 from Add/Remove, and I had hoped that it would take along any associated packages. However now I'm left with a loooong list of software addons and I'm unsure which versions came with 8.6 (and which packages I simply had two versions installed prior).

Is 8.6 considered a major build? Is this why it left the 8.5.1 in-tact? Generally speaking I usually uninstall *any* software package before upgrading, but the install is time-consuming enough.

Anyway, thanks for any suggestions.

Best Regards,

Jamie

Is this correct - LV 8.6 no longer supports Fieldpoint??

I tend not to uninstall old versions but run them side-by-side with the new ones. It is then easier to work on a project that you want to keep at a particular LV version.

No no, 8.6 discontinues support for cFP-20xx devices.

Is this really how you veterans run your installations? I have a hard enough time keeping track of all the addons + versions for distribution (self-installer) builds, etc.

No really, how do you keep this all straight and maintain sanity?? Smiley Indifferent

In agreement with ssk -- you can install different versions side by side.  For awhile, I had 7, 7.1, 8.01, 8.2.1 and 8.5 all installed.  You just launch whichever version you want to use, or when you double click on a .vi it will launch the last version used.  I believe you have to install your toolkits every time you install a new version though.  Sometimes this is helpful if you have an old .vi which doesn't compile to the new version right, or you want to save a newer version back to an old version.
