Read an Absolute Encoder with CompactDAQ

I'm looking to see if it's possible to read an absolute optical encoder with just a CompactDAQ chassis. I'm looking at the Renishaw line that has a few options for Serial outputs and I'm looking at the BiSS standard currently as it was easy to find the standard online. The issue is I only have a CompactDAQ and thus don't have an FPGA to work with and if I did I'd probably just buy the SEA-9521.  So my question is if it's even possible to interface with the Encoder with the hardware available on a CompactDAQ system?

Thanks!

I suppose it's possible in theory - acquiring digital waveforms and decoding frames - but I wouldn't recommend it, as you probably wouldn't be able to achieve optimum readhead performance, or be able to implement any control based on position feedback from it.

Most of our Resolute communication is performed with 7842Rs, but we were impressed with the 9521 from SEA when we were sent one for evaluation.

Thanks for the reply.  I was looking at the SEA 9521 and I thought it looked useful, good to hear people like it. I suppose this might be as good an excuse as any to push for the purchase of a cRIO 🙂
