Re-installing the PXI lan card

Hi,

I'm using the NI PXI-8176 controller.
I need to know how to:
    • Remove and re-install the LAN card driver and how to change the parameters of it (Baud Rate, Full/Half mode etc')?
    • If the program is in LAB VIEW I need to know where is it to debug it.

Thanks,
Shimon.

Hello Shimon,

To access the LAN settings:

My Computer>> Properties>> Hardware>> Device Manager>> Network Adapters

Expand the Network adapters.  Then right click on the appropriate adapter, and select Properties.

Once at the Properties of the adapter you will see several different tabs (General, Driver, Advanced, Details, etc...).  Select the Advanced Tab.  You can alter the baud and duplex mode settings from the speed & duplex.  If you want to uninstall the network adapter, then you will need to go to the Driver Tab.  Once at the Driver Tab you will have the ability to update the driver or uninstall.  I would suggest you try to update the driver prior to completely uninstalling and reinstalling it.  If you elect to uninstall
be sure to note the name of the network adapter.  You can then redownload the driver from the internet.

I have follow-up question, why are you wanting to uninstall and reinstall the LAN driver, and why do you want to alter the baud rate?

Hi Rayen,

  • Thanks for your reply mail.
  • I'm using a unit that has been developed on LabView version 6.1.
  • The HOST PC is with Windows 2000 Professional.
  • The PXI unit has NI PXI 8176 Controller and a few NI cards that are in PXI-1000B HUB.
  • When the HOST PC and the PXI unit are connected together with Crossed Cable, the communication between both of the units losses after a while.
  • When I'm connecting the same units (with the same program) but with a HUB (or a Ethernet Switch) the Program runs with out any problem.
  • I presume that I need to Reinstall/Change the LAN Card driver, with allot of hope it will fix the problem.

P.S: The mentioned HUB or Ethernet Switch is connected with a Crossed Cable to the PXI unit, and from another port its connected to the HOST PC.

Regards,

Shimon.

Hello Shimon,

I have a couple of additional questions:
1.  What OS is the 8176 running?

2.  Is the connection lost consistent?
- does it happen at the same time?
- does it happen in the same part of the program?

3.  What happens when the connection is lost?
- is a message generated when the connection is lost?
- if a message is generated can you please post a screenshot?
