RAM question

Hi,
my application has a total file size of about 4 MB. However, the system
information (Win95) tells me that it is using 25 MB RAM approx. when
running. Is this a realistic value or is there any setting facility
which can be used to control the RAM used.

Thanks

Klaus Hoelscher

In tools/options/performance and disk you can specify deallocate memory as soon as possible. This helps on memory size but also slows your system down a little.

The amount of RAM used is more a function of what your program is doing and how it is doing it than the size of the source files. There are numerous ways to make more efficient use of memory. Chapter 28 of the G Programming Reference Manual for LabVIEW 5 and the LabVIEW Performance and Memory Management app note that comes with LabVIEW 6 has a great deal to say on programming techniques that minimize memory usage.

I take that you mean the .exe version of your application. When it is run, the system also loads routines from the LabVIEW RunTime Library. A certain amount of memory will also be "set aside" for variables within the application. One of the big memory hogs is the front panel. Not only is the panel itself in memory, the display routines to put that on screen are in memory.
