Question regarding Analog Input/Output SubVIs

Hello again,
Thanks for your response to my first question, I since figured out that all of the equipment I am going to be using involves an analog output.

However, my current problem is that I am using LabView5.1, and when I go to the Analog section of SubVis to insert an Analog SubVI, all of the icons are just these big question marks, as if they can't find them. And when I load premade examples which use all of those AI VIs, a browse box pops up for me to manually find the file. It seems as if those VIs were simply not installed. However... I chose the complete install onto the hardrive?

Any insights?

Thanks,
Thomas Borden

I'm glad Darren was able to respond to your question concerning LabVIEW. Note that this section of the forum actually deals with the Datalogging and Supervisory Controls Add-on for LabVIEW (LabVIEW DSC). While you correctly noted that you need to post in a different section concerning the DAQ VIs, you actually want to post to the Measurement Devices >> Multifunction IO section instead. The Measurement Devices section is ideal for questions regarding DAQ boards and NI-DAQ. In the future, you can post there and get the benefit of seeing other questions and getting answers from others dealing with the same types of issues.

If you do not see the DAQ VIs in your LabVIEW Functions palette, it does sound like the DAQ Support for LabVIEW is not completely installed properly. The first and easiest thing to try is to go to the Start menu >> Programs >> National Instruments >> NI-DAQ >> NI-DAQ Setup. Make sure that LabVIEW is not launched. That will bring up a window for you to add certain items. Make sure that you have LabVIEW 5.1 support checked with the correct file path where the LabVIEW.exe for that version is installed. Then, continue on and launch LabVIEW to see if the VIs show up.

One thing I suspect if you did the complete installation of LabVIEW is that you might have inadvertently installed NI-DAQ more than once. LabVIEW 5.1 allows installation of driver software along with it, such as NI-VISA and NI-DAQ. If you then installed NI-DAQ from a CD or from the website, there would be conflicts in the file system. You can only install one version of NI-DAQ at a time.

Thus, leaving LabVIEW intact, you can uninstall whatever remnants of NI-DAQ you have on your machine and then install it from scratch. You would do so using the Start menu >> Settings >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs. If you also see NI-PAL and Measurement & Automation Explorer, you can remove those, as well, as the fresh install of NI-DAQ will install those. You can install the latest version of NI-DAQ for your board at the http://www.ni.com/support/daq pages. First, click on the link to make sure that you have the appropriate version for your board. The latest version of NI-DAQ available is NI-DAQ 6.9.1, but older legacy boards will go up to NI-DAQ 6.1.1.

If you have other versions of LabVIEW on your machine, each full install of that version could also have tried to install NI-DAQ. Note that LabVIEW 6 specifically installs NI-DAQ 6.8 with a new type of installer, which makes it harder for the user to realize that it is installed, since it does not appear in Add/Remove Programs as its own entry. There is a KnowledgeBase with the steps to uninstall this instance of NI-DAQ, if you search for "labview and uninstall ni-daq" at the http://www.ni.com/support pages.
