Problem after upgrade?

I'm wondering if anyone here has similar experience as I'm having.

I'm using LabVIEW 3.1.1 with GPIB to control DMM's or other instruments
to take measurements. We've tried to upgrade to newer versions of
LabVIEW before, such as 5.0, but it for some very weird reason creates
much more noise (more than 3 times greater!).

Thing is, I'm using exactly the same VI's in the same settings like a
computer, wiring, etc. untouched. Of course, VI's are necessarily
converted to current versions, but that's the only change.

This makes me nuts as I can't upgrade and have to use the somewhat
inconvenient interface of LabVIEW 3.1.1.

Has anyone experienced similar problem? I would appreciate if someone
can share your thoughts or solutions.

T
hank you!

Are you using old cards? I'm not very familiar with GPIB, but I have had
so many problems with an AT-AO-10 card, that I am getting rid of it, and
replacing it with SCXI equipment (both are DAQ), much to the delight of my
local rep and the guy in Technical Support guy in Austin who tried to help
me out.

I had problems when I upgraded from 5.0 to 5.1, but eventually it kind of
worked its way out. I also had problems any time I replaced the cards
(AT-AO-10 and PC-LPM-16) when they went bad. Exact same I/O addresses,
DMA, IRQ, etc settings, but I had all kinds of problems.

I know that doesn't help you, but it is something to consider (I'm assumng
that your equipment is old since you have version 3.0).

I'm using AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP), so I don't think it's TOO old. The
computer we're now using for measurements is kind of old (P120), and we
recently got a new Dell PIII 450. But this new computer
introduced huge, oscillating noise, which is even more nagging, so we
had to switch back to our old computer. This is a different story but
understandable because it's whole new hardware and system, but I just
don't understand how upgrading LabVIEW on a computer can introduce
additional noise when everything else is left untouched.

Well, after all, it's a computer... Whenever a mystery gives rise to
problems, we have to play around till another mystery solves them all
suddenly...

Thank you for your suggestion,
Taro
