Possible bug in Labview Express 7 Evaluation

While going through the "getting started with Labview" and using the Express 7 evaluation, I found that when using the context help window and selecting the 'place on the block diagram' button does not seem to work. Instead, when I select this, I get an internet explorer page that says 'the page cannot be displayed.' The same thing happens if I select 'find on the functions palette.' I got this result on two different machines. Is this bug also in the full version? Or is there a known fix for this? Thanks!

Hello

These two options run fine in the full version.

The version 7 evaluation has two modes of operation: Player and Evaluation. In Evaluation mode, you can edit and save VIs, but it times out after 30 days. In Player mode, it does not time out, but you cannot edit or save VIs. Therefore, in Player mode, there are no palettes, and the "place on block diagram" and "find in palettes" features don't work. This is a known issue in Player mode.

You can tell if you are running in Player mode from the launch dialog. If the "New..." button is grayed out, you're running in Player mode. If it's not, you're running in Evaluation mode. You can switch modes by reinstalling.

Thanks for your response. I am running in evaluation mode. It would seem to me that since I am, there are palettes to look in, but this feature does not seem to work. Oh, well. Hopefully, this feature does work in the full version.

The feature works for me in the evaluation version. I think there must be some aspect about your system that is causing it to fail. For example, a firewall may be preventing the message from getting from the help page to your LabVIEW application. But regardless of what may be causing the failure, I would assume the feature will NOT work for you in the full version. You may want to get in touch with NI technical support.
