Pending Application Install Problem

Hi,

I have a panel pc and am trying to monitor CAN messages with it. I'm using the NI CAN card fitting into the panel pc's PCMCIA slot to interface with the CAN.

The panel pc already fits the requirements to run LabView executables. To confirm, it has the following:

Processor: Intel Xscale 400MHz PXA255
OS: Windows CE .NET 4.2
SDK option has been enabled

I know LabView applications work, because I can run executables on the display. The problem I am having is getting the panel pc to recognize the CAN card.

When I install the CAN card, the panel pc pops up with the following message box:

"Unidentified PCCard Adapter
Enter the name of the driver for this PCCard:"

I installed LabView on a labtop using Windows 2000. On this laptop, I downloaded the CANPPC101.exe file and ran its setup file to install LabView 7.1 PDA Support.

Then I try to follow the instructions in the readme file for the following article on the NI website:

"CAN for PocketPC Version 1.0.1 for Pocket PC 2002/Pocket PC 2003."

I connect my panel pc device via a USB cable to the laptop. The panel pc i'm using then acknowledges the connection.

When I follow step 4 of the installation instructions, I get the following message box:

Title: "Pending Application Install"
Text: "On the next mobile device connection, the installed applications will be downloaded to the device."

However, the panel pc is already connected. So i unplug and replug the device and nothing installs.

My question is how exactly do I install this CAN for Pocket PC driver onto my Win CE device?

Hello,

You are correct. When I initially tried to install the CAN for pocket PC software, I got the same "pending install" message, even though the computer and PDA  had acknowledged the connection. What happens is that the software installs to the PDA using Microsoft Active Sync, and you have to establish connection with Active Sync before you can install the software. So once I was connected to Active Sync, I was able to install the CAN software. Hope you find this helpful. Goodluck!
