PDA Module- Palm OS - "Invalid handheld file deleted"

I am attempting to hotsync a Palm OS PDA Module .prc file over to a Tungsten T unit. The .prc file is created with no apparent problems. The hotsync fails with this message. Other sample files go across with no difficulties.

Has anyone had experience with this?

Hi Biff:

I have not heard of this being a problem before, but what I would suggest is building and downloading the program from LabVIEW instead of transferring the file over later. Is this a viable option for you?

I've been working with a Tungsten T5. I can only get .prc files to transfer by using the Quick Install utility that comes with the Palm. I do a "Build for PDA" and then I go to where the file is saved, double click on it and the Quick Install sends it to the PDA on the next Hotsync.

If I try to hit the Run arrow which I believe tries to build the .prc file and then send it to the PDA I never get it to transfer properly. I'm wondering if this is unique to the T5 because of the way it syncs. I think this model is rather new and different from previous versions. It's running Palm OS v5.4.

Boone,

I'm not aware of any incompatibilities with the T5. Could you describe exactly how the run arrow is not "transferring [the application] properly" to the PDA? Do you have the PDA set as the target when you press the run arrow? Do you get any error messages?

I do have the PDA selected as the target when I press the run arrow. It builds the .prc file properly and then gives me a prompt to press the Hotsync button. When I do this, the PDA syncs but that prompt never goes away so it seems that LabVIEW doesn't see the sync happening. I have to hit the cancel button on the prompt. After I do this, it tells me to run the application on the PDA. If new, the app isn't there or if I'm overwriting an existing one the changes aren't present. I have no idea why this wouldn't work but it doesn't seem too.

Boone,

Have you installed the patch for your PDA module. The download feature of the run button is actually not included in the original release of the PDA module, but rather requires the patch. More detailed information on this issue (in addition to a link to the patch) can be found in this online Knowledge Base.

This patch appears to be for LabVIEW 7.0. I'm running 7.1. When I search for updates for the PDA module under LabVIEW 7.1 it doesn't show any updates available. Am I mistaken?

Boone,

Sorry, I didn't realize that you were using version 7.1. You are correct that there are no patches for 7.1 and none are necessary. What happens when you try to download the application to the PDA without using the run arrow (i.e. selecting Operate->Download Application)? I'm assuming that you do have Mathlib.prc installed on the PDA.

I do have the Mathlib.prc installed on the PDA. When I try to download without using the Run arrow, it asks me to press the Hotsync button. I do this and my PDA syncs but LabView never seems to realize that this has taken place. The prompt that appeared telling me to sync never goes away and I have to hit the cancel button. My program also never makes it into the PDA.

Boone,

After doing some research and speaking with R&D, I was finally able to figure what the issue is. The LabVIEW PDA module for Palm requires a serial connection to be able to download or debug directly from LabVIEW. The T5 has hardware issues that prevent it from being able to sync over serial so it must use USB, and thus there is no way for LabVIEW to directly download to a T5. Unfortunately, that means your only option is to manually transfer .prc files on the T5. I'm sorry the news isn't more positive, but at least we got things figured out.

Best Wishes,
