NI-VISA MAX

I am trying to communicate with an instrument via a serial Port and I am receiving this error in Visa Max : 

VISA : ( Hex 0xBFFF001D ) The specified attribute is not defined or is not supported by the resource.

What should I do to fix it? please need your help

Why do you think you need to fix it?

It is a property that is valid for some things, not valid for your serial port.  It is telling you that.

Is it somehow interfering with anything else you are trying to do?

We are going to need specifics about the device to help you best.  "Is Port Connected" is a can of worms that may require some work-arounds all the way to Windows Registry calls but, knowing the device and how it mounts (What chip-set?) will be important information.
