Mindstorms

Hi wireworkers,

Has anyone used LabVIEW with a Lego Mindstorms Unit? I've got the RoboLAB
thing from Dacta and it is a scaled down version of LabVIEW. I started to
wonder if it might be possible to do my software in LabVIEW and zap it over.

There are several hurdles that I see, the translation from LabVIEW to the
binary code that the Mindstorms units needs as well as the transmission across
the IR serial interface.

I haven't really played with the RoboLAB thing too much, perhaps all the
details are handled by VI's that I could run on straight LabVIEW.

If so, this could be a great avenue for newbies to learn LabVIEW at their own
pace.

Thanks in advance

Christopher,

My employer is such a "kid", but he (we) haven't figured out how to use LV
for Mindstorms programming. There are several manuals and code around in
the web, but nothing with this topic. But if anyone find out something, please
let me know too!

Peter

Hi there,

To do this, you can use the ActiveX that comes with the Mindstorm
software and insert it into a Labview program using an ActiveX
container. The methods and properties are documented.

Hope it helps.

Hi,
I was having the same trouble as you. I found it very hard to get help as LabVIEW dont support Lego products anymore and it is very hard to communicate with Lego.
I down loaded Robolab from http://www.ceeo.tufts.edu/robolabatceeo/ College/default.asp and took out the various vi's that are used most often, like "motor A foward", ect. Then I placed these vi's in the user.lib folder. This allows you to call the icons as you would anyother functions or controls.
Attached are some of the vi's I recomend you place in user.lib
