MAX error on Remote System cRIO "No Network Adapter Found"

I installed MAX Ver. 4.7.0 and that resolved the issue, apparently MAX Ver 5.0 is not compatible with Ethernet Card in RT target .

Thanks for the tip. I have the problem with MAX ver. 4.7.7 f 0 as well as 5.0.0.

Hi Aaron,

I just ran the MAX Database Corruption Tool and still have the same problem. Perhaps it is some incompatibility between the Laptop NIC and the cRIO NICs, because the same version of MAX (ver. 4.7.7 f 0) works fine on my desktop.

Hi Pat,

Sorry for my late reply. I have been away from the office during the past week.

Could you check the firewall settings for me? Are you using Windows firewall?

If you are then you can access the firewall settings through control panel. In the Windows Firewall control panel box could you select advance settings. Select Inbound Rules from the pane on there left and scroll down to Measurements and Automation Explorer. Ensure there is a green tick next to the this. If not then select it and click properties on the right pane. In here there is an option to allow the connection. Apply these settings and ensure it has updated.

Please let me know how this goes, I am determined to get this working for you!

Hi Aaron,

I think we are getting closer to getting this resolved. I had previously checked the Windows Firewall and it was disabled....but, I found that our corporate PCs also have a second firewall-McAfee. Based on my limited knowledge of firewalls, I compared the McAfee logs and it appears that the laptop firewall is blocking some of the NI communications and that the desktop PC is not blocking them. This probably explains why communication with the cRIO is OK on the desktop.

We have about 12,000 employees and several hundred IT personnel and they like to keep the computers "locked-down" pretty tight--one cannot change any of the firewall settings. I put in a service request (over a week ago) to IT to investigate and determine if the firewall is blocking communications and, if so, can exceptions be added to the firewall to allow communication.

I suspect that what happened is IT decided to lock the laptops down tighter than the desktops and didn't bother to tell anyone about it--because the laptop was able to communicate just fine with the cRIO.

Meanwhile, I have loaded LabVIEW on a desktop and am lugging it around like it was a laptop from lab to lab where I do my LabVIEW work.

I will give you a definitive answer to let you know if the McAfee firewall is the problem once our IT guys check it out.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Pat,

Many thanks for the update. It defiantly sounds like the firewall could be causing ports used by the CRio to be blocked. We are lucky in our office here that the IT department let us have pretty much do what we want and just fix it when we break it!

Hopefully your IT department will be able to clear this issue up. We receive a lot of issue with customers having issues with blanket firewall systems in the workplace. It is strange though how they have blocked it on Laptops but not Desktops.

That’s great, let me know how this gets resolved and thanks for your patience.

Kind Regards,

I had the same problem on my Laptop. The issue was related to the IP settings on your PC. I changed my ethernet ip address and subnet mask to be in the same subnet. Once that was done, i was able to connect to the cRIO without any issues.
