Labview hangs up on .net

I’d like to start using Labview to interface with .net but if I try to open either the .net examples or just place a constructor, Labview hangs up and I have to kill it with Task Manager.

An earlier post with a similar question suggested an incompatibility with Labview and .net 2.0.  I had .net 2.0 but uninstalled it and now have version 1.1 that came with Visual Studio.  Could there be some residual from the earlier 2.0 installation?  I looked through the registry and my hard drive and deleted every reference to v2.0.4… but it still hangs up.

Anybody have any ideas?  I’d hate to ditch Labview because it’s incompatible with .net.  Even with all its quirks, I’ve gotten to like it for quick test development.

Thanks,

Doug

Try automatic updates from IE, and don't use Express update. There is some update for dot-net.

Do you mean Windows Update?  There latest update for .net I was "Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1" from Sep 2004 which is installed.

Once .NET 2.0 has been installed on the system, it can be hard to completely remove the changes that caused the hang. However, I do have a patch for LV 7.1.1 that allows it to work with .NET 2.0. The patch hasn't been officially released because (a) .NET 2.0 has only just been released and we are validating with the final version and (b) there is still an outstanding issue if you only install the redistr. w/o any VS.NET installed.

If you are interested in trying out the patch, email me at bloggingbrian@gmail.com.

Brian,

Thanks, the patch seems to have worked.  I can now open the .net examples without Labview hanging up.  The only problem I had was trying to do the mass compile after installing the 7.1.1 patch.  It hung up when compiling the dotnet examples.  Go figure.  So I installed your patch and am doing the mass compile now.

Thanks for your help.  It saved a few hours of rebuilding my computer.
