Labview application builder on different windows operating systems

Hi,

I've looked for information on the following but there doesn't seem to be much and I'm wondering if it is because there are no issues and this is an irrelevant question but i'll post it anyway...

Regarding the Labview application builder. Will applications built under one windows operating system (including installer, runtime engine etc) run when installed on a PC running under a different windows OS?
For example, if we built an application in Labview 6i (or 6.1) under WinXP or Win2000, would it install and run under Windows9x? And vise versa?

I already know that there are issues with cosmetics such as system fonts but are there any instances where labview applications will not run due con
flicts with a different OS to the one it was built under?
If so, which combinations of operating systems are incompatible?

Does NI have an official line (app note) on this?

Cheers,
Dan

There can be issues with drivers on the various OSes, but the LV EXE
doesn't need to change and doesn't need separate EXEs.

Greg is correct. Other than drivers, you should have no problems. The only thing to look out for is that you have the correct version of the Run-Time Engine. They are backwards compatible, so if you have an executable built in version 5, it will run on a machine with version 6i of the RTE, but not vice versa. Once you have this correct, your executables will run fine (other than cosmetic issues you referred to).

As far as I know, this is incorrect information. Later versions of the runtime engine DO NOT support executables built from earlier versions of LabVIEW. Rather, there has always been a one-to-one correspondence between the executable version and the RTE. And yes, multiple RTEs can coexist in a given installation. I've got three (5.1, 6.0.2, 6.1) on several test stations on our factory floor.
