LabView/MAX TEDS Cable Length

I have microphones that are TEDS capable.  I am using an NI CompactDAQ with NI 9233 cards.  With both the short and long cables I can record data from these mircophones.  However, MAX only recognizes the TEDS capability when the microphone is hooked up to the short cable.  Any ideas on how to fix this??

Can you elaborate more on short vs long?  What are the lengths?  This article may provide some insight for you.
