LabView FPGA, morph-ic-II

Hello,

I'm trying to use LabView with a FTDI chip Morph-ic-II. I use Labview 14.0 and the toolkit Real-Time and FPGA and I installed the D2XX Drivers. However, I can't find my device on the list of the connected devices. Do you have any idea about what i could do ?

...Hu?

Do you have and FPGA?  Is it being used?

If you aren't, and you are just plugging the device into a Windows PC, open the Device Manager and see if the device is recognized by Windows first.  If it is not, then there is no hope for LabVIEW.  If Windows sees it, launch MAX and see if the device is seen there.  If not you may need to install NI-VISA which comes with the device drivers.  Then if that is all good, launch LabVIEW and look at the example finder, I think there is a simple serial read/write that will list the ports detected in a drop down.

The D2XX driver is not supposed to be recognized by any NI tool. You just call it. The vcp driver is the one to use if you want a com port.

We see the device in Windows, in Max. However what is "the example finder", where could i find it ?

Launch LabVIEW and go to Help >> Find Examples and search serial.

The VCP driver is also installed now. Can you explain how i can use my pins of my board in labview ?

Hi Cbernard,

you need to send strings to your virtual COM port (vcp).

Which ones? Read the manual of your FTDI device…

It should just show up as a serial (COM) port.  So you can just use VISA to send and read data.  Again, check the Example Finder.  There is a Simple Serial Write and Read in there that should help.

i'm sorry i'm new with Labview and the FPGA and i don't understand the process that i have to follow. I don't understand why i have to send data with VISA. I just want to have access to my ports on Labview like on this videos : http://www.ni.com/tutorial/14532/fr/#toc2

tanks again

Hi Cbernard,

you connect with your "morph-II" via a VCP, so you need to use VISA to do that communication.

I just want to have access to my ports on Labview like on this videos

Then you need to use hardware made by NI…

Best regards,
GerdW
