LabView 7.1 Executable

Can I create a LV 7.1 exe file on a machine running Windows XP and port it to a machine running Windows 98( assuming I have all the proper licenses )? Does LV package the Engine for me ?

You have to install the LV7.1 runtime engine on the 2nd machine. Runtime engine does not require a separate license. You can install it by running your Labview development installation disk, and selecting only the runtime engine. Then you can install your exe. There may be some problems with DLLs between XP and Windows98. The only way to tell is to try it.

You should be able to do that.
However, you will need to use the appropriate run-time engine for Win-98.

In this case, you may build it as an executable with a seperate run-time engine instead of creating an installer.

OOps.. it was a 2 part question..

Yes, LV does package the run-time engine is you build it as an installer. But in this case, it may be better to do it seperately.. because I did not see where you can select the run-time engine..

It may contain both... but I'm not sure..

I hope when I try this I can select the Win 98 Engine AND building AND porting a seperate RT Engine is fully explained. Unless... you have any pointers.

Thanks.

Hi Clint,

I think you cannot do that, but I haven't tried it! The minimum requirement for the LV 7.1 development system and deployment system is Windows 2000/NT 4.0 SP6 and XP, so I cannot imagine that you can install the LV 7.1 RTE on a Windows 98 machine.

You are right. LV 7.1 and executables generated with the application builder cannot run on win98 systems.
However, one can convert the vi's to 7.0 version, create an excutable with 7.0 application builder (requires LV 7.0 be installed). LV7.0 supports win 98.

Thank-you all for your support. This has started to get too complicated. I'm just going to use LV on a machine that supposes LV7.1. Its easier to put XP on the machine than it is to try all these convoluted ways of getting the vi to work.
Thanks again.
