I think the problem is not as much VMWare, but LabVIEW 5.0 and Windows
XP. And most probably not even LabVIEW itself but the installer. LabVIEW
5.0 was released more than 6 years before Windows XP came along and the
installer used at that time might simply try to do something XP doesn't
like very much.
You could instead try to install under Windows 2000 or even another
system like NT 4 and copy the entire tree over to your XP partition.
LabVIEW 5.0 was a very self
contained application without any important
registry settings not being taken care of by LabVIEW at startup itself.
Of course that is not as true for IO software such as NI-DAQ and NI-GPIB
but there is little chance that that will work under VMWare anyhow.
But one has to wonder why you are using more or less a super modern OS
configuration with dual boot and a LabVIEW version from Win95 days.
