LabVIEW VI remote panel appearance

Hi,

I have a couple of questions for the LV community re: remote panels in LV 7.1.

First, I publish a VI FP that uses a run-time menu, no tool bar, and no scroll bars. When accessed through Internet Explorer, the FP image has a gray border along its three sides where the tool bar and the scrollbars would have been. Same happened under LV 6.1 and same happens when I publish the FP of an EXE. This creates a minor aesthetic problem for me.

The second question is whether it is possible to have LVRT auto-installed when accessing the server from a computer with no LVRT. I seem to remember that LV 6.1 did it for me without me having to do anything special, while LV 7.1 just shows a broken image (in the IE).

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Sorry, I should have said LV RTE as in Run-Time Engine, not LVRT, above.

Zador,

If you can attach your file I will look at it and see if I see the image problems.

You shouldn't be seeing a brooken image...you should get an error message or the option to download the "plug-in" or RTE.

Are you seeing this behavior from the development machine...like when you hit "preview in web browser"...or only from another machine?

Hi Brett,

I have attached a simple VI and jpegs that illustrate my observations.

As you can see, a VI with "default window appearance" will have a proper looking remote panel. On the other hand a VI with toolbar and scrollbars removed can have margins added or can even get cropped, depending on its visible area size.

I just thought for a second that it may work if I publish the VI while it's running - nope.

My current working solution is to use white background with no border. It looks much better, except that the menu bar hovers a little above the main body.

As far a the RTE goes

I was refering to using a remote computer. On same machine, the remote panel always loads without errors (other than the appearance issue as discussed above). Thank you for confirming that there should be a prompt to install the RTE if it's not already there. I tend to believe that it doesn't happen for me because my computers are "contaminated" by earlier RTE versions. Many have had LabVIEWs installed at some point in the past as well. I will test this as soon as I can get my hands on a "clean" machine.

Thanks and regards,

Zador,

I have played around with your VI. See if the attached mod is more like what you are looking for.

What I have done is take the scrollbar and menubar size into account when setting up the front panel. You can go to VI Properties>>window size and see how I have set the size. You can't see all of it in LV...but then in IE you see it all. This offset is due to LV RP builder using the LV FP size...which is the grey area...and not the window size of LV when building the panel insert. This occurence is more prevelant when decorations or tabs are used on front panels. It just takes a little adjustment.

If this is not what you were looking for let me know. I was out of town teaching...which is why there was a delay in posting...but I am back in the office now.
