That approach copies the entire icon, which gets you the body of the parent method VI icon, but also the banner of the parent class icon, which you don't want on the child method VI.

can you copy just a single layer in the icon editor and then paste that?

Yes you can.  I've done this quite a bit.

Yeah, the reason I like the Quick Drop procedure is because it's considerably faster than launching and using the Icon Editor at all.
