LabVIEW 2011 compiled application icon missing

Solved!
Go to solution

Previously when I built an application the VI Icon would appear in the top right corner exactly the same in the compiled executable as it did in the VI.

Since upgrading to LabVIEW 2011SP1 all I get is a blank/question mark, icon missing indicator.

This happens for all of my compiled applications regardless of what icon I specify, even if I leave it as the default.

VI icon looks like this               Application icon looks like this.

VIicons.png         Exeiconfail.png

Just to be extra clear, there is no problem with how the exe icon appears in windows explorer and shortcuts.

I am ONLY talking about how the front panel icon in the top right corner appears.

The application works, it just looks ugly/unprofessional.

Is this a bug? Do I have something configured incorrectly? Is there a workaround? Has anyone else noticed this?

I think the most "professional"-looking  thing to do is to hide the toolbar when running.

So: no toolbar, no icon and no question mark.

Hope this helps,

Marco

Hope this helps,

No, that doesn't help. It is still a bug which should at the very least be reported to NI.

Dear Troy,

I don't have LV2011 SP1, so all I could do was a test on LV2011. I got no question mark, but you already knew that.

So my only option to step in in the discussion here was to point out the following:

If this is a bug of LV2011 SP1 and if the bug is fixed, in my opinion the application will be ugly/unprofessional even with its shiny icon.

This doesn't help, either.

Hello Troy,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. To try to recreate the issue, can you tell me what version of LabVIEW you upgraded from?

Did you build the .exe in 2011 SP1? Or did you build it in the old version and then run it with the 2011 SP1 runtime? Basically, what version of LabVIEW were the executables built in?

Chances are, since LabVIEW 2012 has been released, then R&D will not fix the bug if I cannot reproduce the issue in 2012.

I look forward to your response. Have a great day!

Thanks,

Joel C

The missing icon has only occurred in executables compiled in LabVIEW 2011SP1.

I have upgraded from 2009SP1 but the exe's are freshly compiled in 2011SP1.

This occurs with old projects started in 2009SP1 and in new projects started in 2011SP1.

Troy,

I was unable to recreate this issue in LabVIEW 2011 SP1. Try repairing the LabVIEW installation on the development computer.

Does this happen only when you build the exes from 1 specific computer? Does it only happen when you run the exes on aspecific computer?

Thanks,

Joel C.

I tried building on another computer. It works properly.

My usual development machine is running Windows XP SP3.

The other computer I just tried a build on is running Windows 7 and that works fine.

I'm trying a repair of the XP installation now (I'll get back to you in a couple of hours!).

One other possible difference is that on the XP machine I installed the LabVIEW 2011 SP1 f1 patch.

Now I can't remember if I uninstalled it again afterwards. How can you tell if the patch has been applied or not?

I can't remember if I did it on the Windows 7 machine too???

From what I can tell the LabVIEW exe file version for:

LabVIEW 2011 SP1 is 11.0.1.4013

LabVIEW 2011 SP1 f1 patch is 11.0.1.4015.

Both PCs did not have the f1 patched version installed athough I know my XP machine used to.

Still waiting for the repair to finish....

Nope, repairing LabVIEW didn't fix it.

Did you try it on Windows XP SP3?
